TL;DR

Cathay's 777-300ER is in the middle of a significant cabin refresh. Some aircraft now have the new Aria Suites with sliding doors in business class. Others still fly the older reverse herringbone product. The Aria Suites feature sliding doors for privacy and are a major step up from the old cabin. The version lottery is real on this aircraft - check before you book.

Cathay Pacific's 777-300ER is one of the most important aircraft in Asian aviation. It carries passengers from Hong Kong across the Pacific, to Europe, and throughout Asia on daily basis. And right now it's in the middle of one of the most significant cabin transformations of any major airline.

The Version Lottery - Read This First

Cathay Pacific has rolled out its newly retrofitted 777-300ER with Aria Suites in business class. The first retrofitted aircraft flew in October 2024. Australian routes including Sydney to Hong Kong got the upgrade in April 2025. But many aircraft still operate the older cabin configuration.

Cathay operates several different 777-300ER configurations with seat counts varying significantly depending on the version. The newest version has 45 business, 48 premium economy, and 268 economy seats. Check the seat map when you book - if you see Aria Suites listed in business, you have the new aircraft.

Business Class - Aria Suites (New Configuration)

The Aria Suites are a reverse herringbone design with sliding doors for privacy, similar in concept to Qatar Airways QSuites. The layout is 1-2-1 with direct aisle access from every seat.

Window seats A and K are the most private. The middle D and G seats are good for couples - the privacy divider can be raised or lowered.

Business Class - Classic Configuration (Older Aircraft)

For solo travelers on the older configuration, seats 11A and 11K are the best picks - very private, no one in front of you, with a little extra space by the wall. The mini-cabin of rows 11 and 12 is particularly quiet and private when the aircraft includes a first class section.

Premium Economy

48 premium economy seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration with 15.6-inch 4K screens. Seats 32H and 32K offer good legroom. Seats 30D, 30E, 30F, and 30G have extra legroom but passengers walk in front of you to access the bathroom.

Economy

268 economy seats in a 3-4-3 configuration. The 3-4-3 middle section means four seats sharing an armrest situation - avoid the center block if you can.

Seats 39A, 39C, 39H, and 39K offer good legroom at the bulkhead. Seat 31A has no window. Seat 15A has no window in the older configuration.
